UBER Eats say they are investigating an incident involving one of their takeaway delivery cyclists who was spotted riding along the M5 near Oldbury.

The courier was pictured at about 11.25am this morning (Tuesday, August 14) making their way through the Oldbury Viaduct roadworks at junction 2.

Watch Commander Adam Joyce, from Oldbury Fire Station, couldn’t believe his eyes when he captured the cyclist pedalling past the ongoing works – branding it “motorway madness”.

When tweeting the picture, Mr Joyce voiced his concerns to Uber Eats saying: “How do you recruit staff who are willing to risk their lives?

“Please educate your riders so that my team and I from @Oldburyfire aren't lifting a HGV off them.”

An Uber Eats spokesman said the company is currently investigating the incident, adding: “The safety of our customers, couriers and the general public is a top priority for Uber Eats.

“All couriers are required to adhere to the Highway Code and any report of a courier breaching road laws can result in being removed from the Uber Eats app.”

Mr Joyce said West Midlands Police have also been made aware of the incident.

Retweeting Mr Joyce’s photo, Oldbury Fire Station (@Oldburyfire) added: “This spotted near our station earlier. Please spread the safety message far and wide.”
