THERE was a record attendance at the Ross-on-Wye Carnival on Saturday.

There were 30 different entrants in the parade which started from the Ashburton Estate and finished at the Ropewalk down by the River Wye. Andrew Buffrey, carnival chairman, said: “It was fantastic. The weather was incredible.”

The A. W. Parker (Drybrook) Band, The Brothers of Blue, the Ola Samba Club all took part in the parade. And for the first year there was a Prince float, as well as a Princess one.

Down at the site at the Ropewalk there was lots to see and do, including Mo the Donkey, a Broomy Hill Railway stand, The Dalloway Dancers and band O.C.D.

Andrew added: “We estimated that there were around 5,000 visitors. It was absolutely packed.” Herefordshire Council carparks were free for the day thanks to Dawleys, Peter Hickman Hairdressing and Westons Cider.
