International celebrity organist Peter King will be giving a free organ recital at Hereford Cathedral on Bank Holiday Monday at 11.30am.

From 1986 to 2016, Peter was Director of Music at Bath Abbey. During his time there, he was responsible for the building of the fine new Klais organ and for founding the Abbey Girls’ Choir. He has given concerts all over Europe; highlights include recitals in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, the Grand Organ Festival at Westminster Cathedral, King’s College, Cambridge, St Paul’s Cathedral and Westminster Abbey. He has given the opening recitals on the new organ in Palacio Euskalduna, Bilbao, and in Birmingham, where he played at the opening of the new organ in Symphony Hall. A recent Radio 3 review of Peter’s recording of organ works by Liszt described him as “ a virtuoso of world class! I’m astonished at his bravura; nothing fazes him... and he plays with such élan, and with such passion, such commitment,” (Chris de Souza). Peter’s programme for Hereford includes music by Whitlock, Dubois and Guilmant and some well-known popular pieces, ending with the magnificent Homage to Handel by Karg-Elert. This concert is promoted by the Herefordshire Organists’ Society as this year’s Annual Recital. Admission is free but there will a retiring collection in aid of the Society and Hereford Cathedral.
