AN eight year old girl whose cousin died in an accident at home is having her hair cut for charity.

Martha Jinks from Barrs Court Road in Hereford is having her long locks cut off for the Little Princess Trust, which provides wigs for children who have lost their hair due to illness.

She is also raising money for the Bodie Hodges Foundation, which supports families who have been bereaved of a child of any age and promotes organ donation.

Her cousin Alfie Hyett died, aged 10, in March 2016 in a tragic accident at his home in Holmer.

Martha's mum Ellie Munro said: "He was best friends with Martha's brother Finn. They were cousins who grew up together with Alfie.

"It has torn our family apart which is why it is so important to us to support other families."

Martha, who goes to St Thomas Cantilupe CofE Academy, is having her hair cut on August 21 and wants to raise as much money as possible.

Ellie, who also has sons Ollie, 18, and Finn, 13, said: "What we are doing is we are raising as much money for Louise Hembrow, Alfie's mother, to do the Great Wall of China walk next year."

Louise is aiming to raise £2,500 by walking the Great Wall of China in 2019 in memory of Alfie. The money will go to Bodie Hodges as the charity brought comfort to the grieving family.

On her JustGiving page Martha wrote: "The money I raise will be donated to The Bodie Hodges Foundation - they provide free respite for families that have suffered a loss of a child, my auntie spent her first Christmas there without Alfie and it helped her a lot."

Ellie said Martha is also team captain at Tupsley girls football team and is a well respected member of her team.

She added: "She thrives on helping other people and we are so proud of the little girl she is turning out to be.

"We have had massive support so far from our community and outside of it and we couldn’t be more grateful."

She said Martha misses Alfie a lot and speaks about him daily.
