A RUTHLESS fielding display helped Colwall to victory against old rivals Worcester Nomads which steered them clear of danger in the Worcestershire County League Division One.

Eight caught wickets and none dropped helped the visitors come away with 20 vital points as they moved up the table.

Colwall made inroads from the outset and their bowling and fielding was of the highest order as Nomads were shot out for just 73 in the 28th overs.

Pace bowlers Mike Gooch (2-9) and Fergus Cameron (2-13) did the early damage reducing Nomads to 22-4 from accurate seven over spells.

Spinner Nick Brown (3-8) chipped in with three quick wickets, including a return catch off White as the Nomads tail disintegrated and they were out for 73.

Skipper Ben Cooke (23) and Cameron (13) gave Colwall a solid start to their reply before James Abel and newcomer Dan Brierley saw off the remaining runs to win by seven wickets.

Burghill, Tillington and Weobley are now 30 points from safety following a 10-wicket defeat at the hands of Chaddesley Corbett.

Wormelow gave themselves hope of moving out of the bottom two in Division Two following a nine wickets victory at home to Bredon.

After being put into field Tom Cutler set the tone for the Wormelow bowlers taking 4-20 as Bredon were bowled out for 108.

Finally Bartestree & Lugwardine fell to a 164-run defeat at the hands of top two chasing Belbroughton.

A defeat in Division Three saw Eastnor drop into the bottom half after falling 78 runs short of their chase.

Suleyman Shah took five wickets for the Herefordshire side as their hosts scored a respectable 184.

In response only a 34-run stand by Scott Roberts helped Eastnor as they fell to 106 all out from 30 overs.
