The University of Worcester is one of the sponsors of the Hereford Times Health and Social Care Awards 2018

THE University of Worcester is one of the country’s leading educators of healthcare professionals, from nurses and midwives, paramedics and physiotherapists through to occupational therapists and social workers.

With a reputation for the highest quality provision, partnership working and delivery, the university plays a leading role in researching and developing innovative and creative solutions in health and wellbeing, such as establishing the UK’s first Masters in Physician Associates to help meet the changing needs of the health service.

The university works in close collaboration with employers, including the NHS, county councils and a range of voluntary and private sector employers, and Worcester graduates are among the most employable in the country.

Professor David Green, Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University of Worcester, said: “We work closely with our local community and with partners across a wide range of sectors to provide students with an invaluable insight into professional practice.

"We work alongside commissioners and policy makers to ensure that our work prepares professionals to make a valuable contribution today and to lead and contribute effectively in different roles in the future.”

Students benefit from well-qualified, creative, enthusiastic, supportive staff and have access to some exceptional learning facilities.

The university has invested in excellent skills and simulation facilities to support learning, including a psychology laboratory, skills rooms and a specially adapted house for the training of health professionals working in the community.

The university has three internationally acclaimed research centres in the field of health: the Association of Dementia Studies (ADS), the Centre for Violence Prevention (CVP) and the Mood Disorders Research Group, which focuses on investigations of bipolar disorder.

The university is delighted to be sponsoring the Hereford Times’ Health and Social Care Awards, recognising the outstanding commitment of the many professionals and volunteers who work in our hospitals, GP surgeries, care homes and many other settings.

Professor Green said: “It is a great opportunity to showcase the valuable work they do each and every day and to highlight the brilliant work some of the very best healthcare professionals in the county and the country as whole.”

In Herefordshire the university works closely with trusts and practices, including the Wye Valley NHS Trust and the 2Together NHS Foundation Trust for the education of nurses, midwives and nurse associates in particular.
