POSIE Stewart ignored comments that her new hairstyle made her look like a boy.

She didn't care.

She had her hair cut off in memory of her brother, Oscar, and to raise money for the Meningitis Research Foundation.

Oscar died of the illness in 2005 when he was a baby.

Posie's mum, Rachael, who has nominated her best Charity Fundraiser in our Pride of the Cotswold Awards 2018.

She said: "She has wowed her peers and community with her spirit and determination.

"She has ignored comments about looking like a boy as she wanted to do something to raise awareness."

Nominated for the Volunteer Award is Gloucestershire and Worcestershire 4x4 Response (GW4X4R).

The voluntary organisation was set up in 2006 and its first major incident was the flooding in 2007, which it worked with the Red Cross and other agencies to deliver bottled water, food and hygiene packs to care homes across the county. Members offer their own time and use their own vehicles.

Simon Cantillion, who submitted the nomination, said: "During the winter of 2017-18 volunteers were called out on countless occasions, from the first snow in 2017, through to the Beast from the East.

"In fact, for a few days 14 volunteer drivers and three controllers covered 72 call-outs and 1,667 miles throughout the two counties.

"Without GW4X4R many NHS consultants and nurses wouldn't have made it to/from their place of work in adverse weather, which would have a massive impact on the care provided."

The Pride of the Cotswold Awards will be presented in a glitzy ceremony at the New Lawn stadium, home of Forest Green Rovers Football Club, in September.

Supplements in the paper and coverage on our website and social media will list which awards are up for grabs, and which are finally shortlisted.

Our independent judging panel will sift through your nominations and identify those with the qualities they feel best match the award category criteria. They will make their decision based on the content of the nomination rather than the number of nominations received.

Join us in applauding those who help make the Cotswolds great.
