EARLY on the morning of June 9, 43 cars were gathered on the Glebe Field for the second Madley Miglia organised in aid of the Madley Church Roof Fund.

The "MM" is a touring event for classic and interesting cars and motorcycles.

The entry list included a "full-on" racing Westfield SE, a 1937 Buick V8 Sedan, a lovely little Austin A35, an Austin Healey 100 and a 1935 Daimler 15.

The oldest car was Tom and Bridget Pellow's 1933 March Riley.

Ahead of them were 70 miles of challenging driving through the lanes and hills of Herefordshire and Powys.

After breakfast and armed with detailed maps and directions provided by the sponsors Brightwells the crews were released at one minute intervals to cross the Wye at Whitney Toll Bridge and climb through tight lanes to the Begwns and Llanbedr Hill.

After a long lunch at The Castlefields there was a shorter leg through the villages back to the Glebe Field for tea, cakes and a lot of chat.

The day was a pleasurable way for the keen motorists to contribute to a worthwhile cause.
