A LIFELONG Almeley parish resident has celebrated her 100th birthday.
Elsie Lloyd from Woonton had a 100th birthday afternoon tea party on May 27 in Almeley Village Hall with 60 relatives and friends.
Earlier in the day she had visited her sister Mary Evans, aged 104, a resident at Kington Court.
Born Elsie Lilwall at Castle Frome Farm in Almeley she later moved to New House Farm and since 1947 has lived at Pool House, Woonton.
After attending Almeley school she worked at Greenlands and at Townsends in Hereford followed by nursing at Nieuport House during the war years.
Married for 72 years to John Lloyd she was involved with poultry and blackcurrant growing.
A keen WI member for more than 80 years she enjoyed painting and still enjoys gardening at her Woonton home. She has a son and two granddaughters.
