The Courtyard’s visual arts project Cultivate@Courtyard launched earlier this month, showcasing the work of three shortlisted local artists aged 16-25.

Levi Cooke, Megan Banks-Jenkins and Nuala Hussey have all studied and lived in Herefordshire, with disciplines ranging from fine art and illustration to photography. For the last six months they have been mentored by professional artist and jeweller, Maria Morgan, creating work based around the theme of Herefordshire, which will be on display at The Courtyard as well as Old Mayor’s Parlour Gallery, throughout May and June. Maria Morgan, project co-ordinator, says: “Cultivate@Courtyard is a really exciting project which has supported emerging artists to raise their artistic profile and develop skills.”

Sir Roy Strong, who served as director of both The National Portrait Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, adjudicated the exhibition and commended Levi Cooke who was awarded a cash prize of £1000 for best meeting the brief.

The exhibition runs at The Courtyard until Saturday June 30.
