RESIDENTS in Holmer Manor Close came out in force to celebrate the royal wedding on Saturday.

The street party was held on Saturday afternoon in Holmer after residents watched Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tie the knot.

It is thought to have been the only street party in the county organised to celebrate the wedding.

Kelly Mills, from Holmer Manor Close, said: "It was fab. We had such a good day - everyone had a ball.

"My husband Bob dressed up as Harry."

They raised £106 for The Midlands Air Ambulance and St Michael's Hospice

Major Robert Barnes put up flags in Gwynne Street in Hereford to celebrate.

He said: "It is my duty and privilege to adorn the street on high days and holidays."

Tupsley Whitehouse Community Hub held a party with food and drink to celebrate the union.

Three people from Herefordshire attended the wedding on Saturday. Aaron Baldwin, from Newton Farm, Wendy Tarplee-Morris, from Burghill, and Coleen Tudor from Hereford, were invited based on the strength of their contribution to the local community.

Wendy Tarplee-Morris was invited for her role in setting up and running The Little Princess Trust, which provides real hair wigs free of charge to children and young adults up to the age of 24, who have lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other illnesses.

She took along Simon Tarplee, co-founder of the charity.

She said: "It was just surreal. We had a really lovely position on the lawn where we were right outside the royal entrance and exit. We saw the rest of the royal family.

"We had a really good view of all the guests arriving. The atmosphere was incredible.

"We got to go inside the chapel afterwards and go all around it - smell the flowers - we went right up by the altar."

Her hat was made by Lisa Steed Davey through Hat Trick in Hereford, and attracted the attention of some of the media.

After the wedding Wendy rushed back to Hereford to take part in Strictly Hereford at Hereford Cathedral. She said: "I was stood there waiting to go on the dancefloor and do my jive in front of 500 people and just eight hours earlier I was stood in the grounds of Windsor Castle for the royal wedding."

Aaron, 17, was invited in recognition of his services to the youth community across Hereford. He works part-time at Holme Lacy House Hotel and they decided to provide a suit for Aaron to wear to the wedding.

Hereford’s new mayor, Sue Boulter, and home care company, Katherine Harriet, hosted a celebration party for the over 60s on Saturday.

The event was held at The Scout Hut on Westfaling Street, Hereford. Well attended by members of the St Nicholas Over 60s Club and Katherine Harriet clients, the crowd celebrated the special occasion in style with a live screening of ceremony, champagne, lunch and cake.

On the eve of the wedding, members of the community joined together to transform the Scout Hut into a wedding extravaganza, giving their free time and kind donations. The event brought people together, some of whom would have otherwise watched the special broadcast at home on their own.

Director of Katherine Harriet Home Care, Kathy De Mattia, said: “It was a fantastic day, with a lot of smiles, laughter and singing, and you could see that everyone thoroughly enjoyed the celebrations.

"Clubs like this are a wonderful opportunity for those living alone to make new friendships in an uplifting sociable environment. We would like to thank all the people and businesses who helped to make this special event happen.”
