A MOTHER and daughter will be completing the last stage of a pilgrimage to raise money for a bereavement charity which supported them.

Rhiann Watkins, 42, lost her son Sam when he was 18-months-old and was helped by Phoenix Bereavement Support.

This year will be Sam's 18th birthday and to mark this, Rhiann, is walking the last stage of Camino de Santiago 'The Way" from Sarria to Santiago de Compostela.

Her mother, Lin Mathias, 68, will be supporting her on a bicycle, as will friends Lynne Fizediecz and Sue Cox.

Rhiann's friend, Kelly James, is walking the 18 miles a day with her.

On Rhiann's fundraising website she said: "In November 2001 our whole world fell apart when our little boy was taken away from us suddenly. He had been in our lives for only 18 short love and fun filled months and he was full of energy, had the most sparkling blue eyes and was such a beautiful gentle boy with a smile big enough to break anybody's heart.

"After my beautiful baby son Sam died we used the wonderful services of Phoenix Bereavement Support. The work and support that they provide is phenomenal and reaches out to many families going through the most tragic and distressing times in their lives."

Both Lin and Rhiann live in Ledbury Road in Hereford
