THE Rotary Club of Leominster are pleased to announce the results of the local heat of the Young Writers Poem Competition.

This competition is run by Rotary and the local winner proceeds to a district level and then hopefully to a national level.

It is open to children aged from seven to 17, is split in to three age bands and the title theme for the poem was The Wedding of Harry and Meghan.

In the Leominster heat the top two entrants came from Burley Gate Primary School with the overall winner being James Whitehouse so many congratulations to him. His entry then went forward to district and, whilst not winning, did elicit a comment from the judges complimenting him on the metre and language used in the poem.

Many congratulations also go to Thomas Buckle (2nd place), and to the staff at Burley Gate Primary School for the support given to encourage the work of young people who show talent. Both winners received a book token for their efforts and Rotary wishes to acknowledge the enthusiasm shown by all the entrants and the teaching staff from the schools who submitted entries.
