POLICE believe a BB gun or catapult was used from Garrick House multi storey car park which shattered a pane of glass at Waitrose.
Officers are now appealing for witnesses to the criminal damage at 2.56pm on Saturday at Waitrose in Hereford.
A window of the supermarket's café was shattered by something fired from what is believed to be a catapult or a BB gun.
Sergeant Andy Wortley said: "This was potentially an extremely serious incident and it is being treated as criminal damage with the potential to endanger life.
"Fortunately, only the outside pane of glass shattered otherwise someone could have been seriously hurt as there were a lot of people in the café at the time.
"We believe the catapult or BB gun was fired from the vicinity of the Garrick House multi storey car park on Widemarsh Street. We're keen to hear from anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in this area."
Anyone who witnessed any suspicious behaviour or has knowledge of the incident should contact West Mercia Police on 101 quoting incident 445s of 28 April 2018 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
