A DRIVER had a lucky escape this morning following a crash in Eardisley.

Fire crews from Eardisley and Kington attended the crash between a van and a car near to the Tram Inn at 10am.

The Kington Fire Service said there was a "huge impact and massive intrusion but a very lucky patient with only minor injuries."

Firefighters gave immediate trauma care to the trapped driver, released his legs using hydraulic tools, then made the vehicles safe before handing over to the police.

Firefighters also gave first aid to the van driver prior to the ambulance arriving.

An ambulance spokesman said: "One patient went to Hereford County Hospital - a man in his 30s, who was the driver of the car. He was trapped in the car and was cut out by the fire service."

He said the man had hand, back and leg injuries but did not appear to have broken anything.

Another patient was discharged at the scene.
