PUPILS at Stretton Sugwas Church of England Academy were celebrating recently after receiving the prestigious Eco Schools Green Flag Award, which recognises outstanding practice in promoting global and environmental issues throughout their school and the wider community.

Eco-Schools is a global programme and is part of the Keep Britain Tidy Environmental charity.

Over the last three years, the school has been focusing on the nine different topic areas; litter, waste, water, energy, healthy living, school grounds, transport, biodiversity and global citizenship.

Mrs Dawnay, eco co-ordinator, commented, "Not only do we have to say a huge thank you to the pupil-led Eco Committee and Eco Club for helping the school become more environmentally aware, we also have to say a huge thank you to one of our pupils, Millie, for inspiring us to take part in events such as Meat-Free Mondays."

The Vegetarian Society was so impressed by Millie's inspirational behaviour that they featured her in a video on their website.

The next event run by the children in the school's Eco Committee is The Great British Spring Clean litter pick on Friday, March 16 at 1.30pm around Stretton Sugwas. Any volunteers are welcome to come and join in.
