A SYNCHRONISED swimmer and a rower were recognised for their achievements by Herefordshire Sport this week.

Greta Hampson was named Junior Female Sports Achiever of the Year after competing in events and championships across Europe.

The Hereford Sixth Form College student is a recipient of the Elite Athlete Programme at the college and at last year's GB National Championships, won two gold medals as well as a silver and a bronze.

The Junior Male Sports Achiever of the Year was George Fraser.

The Hereford Rowing Club member took part as an individual and a crew member of his club's undefeated J18 crew and made his mark at intermediate and senior levels at numerous regattas.

Highly commended awards in the junior male category went to rugby player Jack Lewis and cyclist Emyr Truelove, who both go to Weobley High School.

The Young Volunteer of the Year went to Amelia Corrick-Gough, of the Hereford Poison Berries junior roller derby ream.

As well as being a team player, Corrick-Gough also coaches and officiates at club, national and European levels, devoting countless hours to the development of the club and the sport.

Meanwhile, the Junior Team of 2017 was Ross Juniors Football Club's under-10s girls' team, who became national futsal champions in their age group, while the Hereford Rowing Club J13 double scull duo of Jake Birch and Henry Fraser were highly commended in the category.

Primary School of the Year for PE and sport went to Gorsley Goffs Endowed Primary School.
