A PUBLIC presentation concerning Bovis' plans for 185 new homes off Leadon Way will take place in the Market House, next Tuesday.

Former Ledbury mayor, Cllr Annette Crowe said: "The public need another chance to understand what is being proposed, and they need to see plans for the roadways."

If permission is granted for another new development off Ledbury bypass, to the south of the town, this will mean another roundabout would be built along that stretch, to give access to the new estate.

And this would be in addition to the roundabout now being built at the Martin's Way junction on the New Mills estate, to accommodate Barratt Home's Hawk Rise development, opposite the Deer Park estate.

Bovis is also proposing a toucan crossing "in order to facilitate pedestrian and cycle movements across Leadon way", together with a cycling and footway from Leadon Way, connecting with the Southend.

Cllr Crowe and another councillors are particularly concerned with proposals from Bovis to narrow Gloucester Road, on the approach to the existing Gloucester Road Roundabout, from which there is a turn for Leadon Way.

The narrowing of the road, to achieve traffic calming, would be accomplished by widening the pavement at one point; but councillors are worried about the impact on traffic flow, along a busy and important road.

Last week, Ledbury's economic development and planning committee voted unanimously to recommend refusal of the outline planning application.

But now a public presentation, which has been organised between the town council and Bovis, to set the plans and ideas before Ledbury people.

Ledbury's mayor, Cllr Elaine Fieldhouse said: "Personally, I feel we have enough new developments to cope with, and I do worry about the extra strain on Ledbury's infrastructure."

Ledbury was earmarked for 800 new homes, under the Core Strategy, which is Herefordshire Council's planning blueprint for the next two decades.

But the total number of new homes now looks set to top 2000.

The final decision on the Bovis application lies with Herefordshire Council.

The public presentation will take place in the Market House, from 4pm to 6pm, on Tuesday February 20.
