A HEREFORDSHIRE rambler is looking forward to the day when he can cross the A40 by Ross-on-Wye safely.
Work is almost complete on a pedestrian crossing 40 metres to the east of the Wilton Roundabout in Ross.
A spokesman for Highways England said it should be in operation by the end of the month, about three months later than planned.
Allan Ricketts from Herefordshire Ramblers said: "Once again it will be possible to walk safely from Bridstow to Ross and visa versa."
He congratulated the local parish councils, residents and walkers who have campaigned for the toucan crossing.
Mr Ricketts was concerned that the project had dropped off the current projects map as work had slowed to a halt and the lights were still covered. But Highways England said this was not the case and it will open soon.
