VEHICLE security advice has been issued to motorists after a spate of thefts from vans in Ledbury.

The offences have predominantly taken place in the early hours of the morning, the town's Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) have said.

Sergeant Nick Green, from Ledbury SNT, said: "We are currently investigating a number of van thefts within the area and would urge anyone with any information about these offences to please come forward.

"Please always ensure that vehicles are locked when parked and that valuables are never left in the vehicle or on display."

Advice issued to motorists includes:

  • Vehicles should be locked at all times and all tools should be property marked.
  • When leaving your vehicle overnight, park in well-lit areas and near your home if possible - with valuables removed from the vehicle.
  • Tools that need to be left in the vehicle should be stored securely and not left on display.
  • If your vehicle is not alarmed, consider having an immobiliser fitted. They can work as a deterrent and will draw people's attention to the vehicle if it is broken into.
  • Consider having your tools marked, so if they are stolen and recovered, the owner can be identified.

Anyone who has witnessed any suspicious behaviour is asked to call police on 101 or, if you see a vehicle being broken into and a crime taking place, call 999.
