WHAT could turn out to be the smallest arts centre in the world was opened on Saturday by Herefordshire Poet in Residence, Fiona Sampson M.B.E.
Garway Parish Council adopted the old phone box under a scheme run by B.T. which aims to encourage communities to preserve their iconic red kiosks.
Villagers raised funds to completely renovate the kiosk which came to the village common in 1948 before volunteers worked on the restoration.
The first exhibition in the new arts centre, which now goes under the name of K6 Arts, is a poetic one.
Villagers were asked to send in lines from imagined conversations which may have taken place in the box over the years. The lines were then arranged into several poems by Garway’s writing group.
In the future the box will host art, photography, craft and other installations, all inspired and created by the community. There are even plans for live events and eccentricity will be welcomed.
The current exhibition of poetry will run up until December.
