THE Governor of the Bank of England stopped off for lunch at Hereford's Left Bank Village as part of a visit to the city.
Mervyn King had been invited to meet some of the county's business leaders, farmers and retailers by the Bank's Agency for the West Midlands, who use these types of meeting to gather information on the region's economy.
Mr King said: "Every month I visit a different part of the UK in order to gauge economic conditions and to help explain the work and aims of the Monetary Policy Committee.
"This visit to Herefordshire and Worcestershire is in addition to the other visits my MPC colleagues will make to the West Midlands region during the year and also to the permanent presence of our local agents, John Bartlett and Pauline Finlay, who gather information from business to feed back to the MPC on a monthly basis."
