FOUR women had their heads shaved at half time on the pitch during Monday's Hereford FC v Evesham United game.

Marcie Furness, Karen Hackley, Etty Greenhouse and Jayne Limb braved the shave to support their friend, Julie Nicholas, aged 37, who is currently being treated for breast cancer.

Julie and her four friends have a background in women's sport, having played women's football and also captained, coached and managed.

Ledbury resident, Julie. has set up a fundraising and awareness campaign called #itsnotalwaysalump.

She said, of Monday's match, "It was so incredible. Everyone is still just buzzing from it. It was so well supported."

They collected money from football fans in support of the shave- this will go towards Julie's aim to raise £1,000 for every year of her life to diagnosis for Macmillan Renton Unit Hereford, The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and Coppafeel.

Mayor of Hereford, Jim Kenyon, offered his support and had his beard shaved during half time.

Julie's initial campaign for #itsnotalwaysalump is to provide each local sports centre and club house with shower stickers for both men and women changing facilities encouraging teams to check themselves regularly.

She said she has been overwhelmed by the support given to her since the campaign started.
