McCARTNEYS report an entry of 198 Store Cattle and 943 store sheep at Knighton Market on December 2.

The prize show and sale of store lambs were kindly judged by Mr John Francis, Abercynon and sponsored by DRE Accountants. Results were as follows:-

Class 1 Best Pen of 15 or more Suffolk cross or Native Breed Store Lambs:

1st J T and A E Williams, Yew tree £65.00.

2nd R S Marpole, Lane Cottage £61.00.

3rd E R Roberts and Son, Racecourse £64.00.

Class 2 Best Pen of 15 or more Continental cross Store Lambs:

1st G P W Richards, Cwmydea £71.80.

2nd T J Richards and Son, The Garn £68.50.

3rd M H Price, Pool House £68.00.

Another strong trade was had with a large number of buyers present. Mixed lambs averaged £59.62 per head selling to £68.50 per head for Texel cross mixed lambs from T J Richards and Son, The Farm. Also to £68 per head for Texel cross mixed lambs from M H Price, Pool House. £65 per head for both Texel cross mixed lambs from J W Bufton and Sons, Old Castle and Suffok cross mixed lambs from J T and A E Williams, Yew Tree.

Wether lambs averaged £58.37 per head and sold to £71 per head for Texel cross wether lambs form G P W Edwards, Cwmydea. Also to £67.50 per head for Texel cross wether lambs form R G Swancott, Tregodfa. £65.50 per head and £65 per head for Texel cross wether lambs again from G P W Edwards, Cwmydea. £64 per head for Suffolk cross wether lambs from E R Roberts and Sons, Racecourse.

Ewe lambs averaged £60.16 per head and sold to £66.20 per head for Texel cross ewe lambs from both D Morgan and Son, Upper Esgair Rhiw and J D Powell, Henfryn.

Ram lambs averaged £56.46 per head and sold to £68 per head for both Suffolk cross ram lambs from E R Roberts and Sons, Racecourse and Texel cross ram lambs from R D Mills and Son, Brynmelin. Also to £63 per head for Texel cross ram lambs form D Morgan and Son, Upper Esgair Rhiw.

A good store cattle trade followed with store steers averaging 206.17 pence per kilo and £1023.28 per head selling to 237 pence per kilo for three 450 kilo Charolais cross steers to £1065 per head from I L and A J Powell, Lower Cwmydalfa. 54 heifers averaged 202.30 pence per kilo and £880.56 per head selling to 225 pence per kilo for two 475 kilo Limousin cross heifers to £1070 also being top price per head from G Evans and Son, Upper Ffrydd.
