A RUGBY player with a strong Hereford tradition looks set to feature for the Wyesiders' first-team this season.

Tom Watkins, who has graduated from the club's Colts section, will follow in the footsteps of his two grandfathers.

Watkins will be available for selection for Hereford when his studies at Swansea University allow.

He made a good start to his senior rugby career at Hereford with a try in the Wyesiders’ pre-season clash against Lydney.

Both his grandfathers played for the club at first team level.

Chas Watkins was part of in Hereford's front row during the 1950s, but retired from the sport when his rugby commitments conflicted with his passion for rowing.

And Jack Fell, who is Watkins’ maternal grandfather, joined Hereford in the 1960/61 season and was appointed club captain the following year.

Hereford open their new Midlands One West campaign with a trip to Stratford-upon-Avon on September 3 (3pm).
