AS temperatures soared on the weekend, Leominster residents cooled themselves by sampling some of the tipples on offer at the town's newest brewery.

Swan Brewery, based on the Enterprise Park, was formally declared open earlier this month when suppliers, friends, former colleagues from Wye Valley Brewery, family and publicans helped mark the occasion.

And last week the new brewery opened its doors to members of the public, who were able to try out the beers and take part in a new quiz.

Jimmy Swan, head brewer, said: "We had a good turn-out and a lot of local Leominster people called in.

"We had a couple of beers on and generally had good feedback."

Not only is Mr Swan head brewer, he's also responsible for washing and filling casks and is the drayman for deliveries.

"It's hard work from the point of getting established and also the work itself," he said.

"It is quite hard doing all the brewing, delivering and pretty much everything but it's definitely enjoyable."

David Minton, the Leominster Ale Taster also performed his ceremonial duties as he quaffed new Cygneture Ale and gave it his seal of approval.

Swan Brewery has been brewing and supplying in to pubs and clubs in Herefordshire and close parts of neighbouring counties since March 2016.
