DOCTOR surgeries in two Herefordshire villages have been named among the best in the UK.

Much Birch Surgery and Weobley Surgery both feature in the top 100 surgeries, according to the national GP Patient Survey.

At Much Birch, which was ranked 54th out of 7,708 surgeries nationwide, 99 per cent of survey respondents said they had confidence and trust in the last GP they saw or spoke to, while 98 per cent described their overall experience of the surgery as good.

At Weobley, which was ranked 62nd, 100 per cent of those taking part in the survey say the last appointment they got was convenient. The same figure said the last nurse they saw or spoke to was good at giving them enough time.

Next best in Herefordshire is Pendeen Surgery in Kent Avenue, Ross-on-Wye which was ranked 127th.

The best ranked Hereford surgery was Cantilupe, on St Owen Street, which came in at 1,373nd.

At the bottom end of the table, Kington came in at number 6,696 with just 22 per cent of patients saying they usually wait 15 minutes or less after their appointment time to be seen.

However, 91 per cent said the last appointment they got was convenient, with 96 per cent having confidence and trust in the last GP they saw or spoke to there.

The GP Patient Survey is a rolling poll based on the views of hundreds of thousands of surgery users.

It asks people whether people are happy with waiting times, the experience of booking an appointment, whether GPs give them enough time, whether GPs listen to them, whether or not they have trust in their GPs, the overall experience of visiting the surgery and whether they would recommend it to newcomers.

Across Britain, 854,000 patients responded with their views.

Surgeries which had fewer than 50 responses from the survey were excluded on the basis the sample size was too small to draw significant conclusions.
