McCARTNEYS report a good entry of store cattle, feeding cows and heifers with calves at foot for their December sale.

The store cattle sold to a good trade which would be similar to other centres.

The store cattle trade has eased over the past few weeks due to less demand for fat cattle.

Quality cattle sold to market premiums and those that would hit the super market specs.

We had a good contingent of buyers which competed well for the cattle, the cattle this month were plainer sorts in the main with some dairy bred cattle.

Feeding cows sold to a good trade in comparison to the fat market prices and they sold to £600 per head.

The heifers with calves at foot met an excellent trade with good buyer support.

The heifers and calves sold to £1380 per out fit and averaged £1350 per out fit.

December cattle sale prices were as follows:

Top price paid for cattle on the day was £1270 for some Charolais heifers from B Bayliss and Co.

Steers averaged £2 per kg with a top of £2.20 per kg for some Charolais cross steers from Messrs Hammond.

All Steers forward at the sale averaged £1010 per head with a top of £1145 per head.
