TENBURY Town were in seventh heaven as they ended Holme Lacy’s unbeaten record In Division One of the Herefordshire League with a remarkable 7-4 away win.
It was the anniversary of their famous cup win over local rivals Tenbury United and Town boss Bob Sumner admitted: “I think the spirit and memory of that result spurred us on.
“We started the game with a makeshift back four and I would have taken a draw at the start. It was an amazing win and I think it has thrown the division wide open. The lads deserve huge credit for what they are achieving.”
A frantic start saw Alex Lombardi convert a penalty to give Town the lead after Alex Bright was tripped, only for Holme Lacy to cancel that out with two quick goals.
Mark Boucker pulled it back to 2-2 before half-time and he then went on to complete a hat-trick in the second half, both goals from free-kicks, Alex Bright also scoring twice and Declan Bright rounding things off with a superb seventh goal.
Town, in fourth place and seven points behind leaders Woofferton with three games in hand, host third-placed Sinkums this Saturday.
