THE Hereford Haven is now advertising for a nurse whose first year in the job will be paid for by our One in Eight appeal fund.

The Hereford Times appeal launched in July and in October hit its target of £30,000 to pay for an oncology nurse for the breast cancer support centre in St Owen Street.

The centre is now advertising the job on its main website with a closing date of November 5.

The new breast care nurse will join the team providing a breast cancer support programme.

The centre has an established outreach programme and is expanding this service to the new breast unit in Worcester hospital in 2016.

The appeal has been extended and we are aiming to raise another £30,000 to fund the nurse for another year.

An awareness day held by the centre in High Town, Hereford on Saturday was a great success.

Community fundraiser for The Haven, Lesley Leach, said: "It was absolutely brilliant. We raised £1,006.84, which is the best we have ever done [at an awareness day].

"Last year we thought we had a good year when we raised around £800."

There was entertainment throughout the day from various groups which pulled the crowds in.

Lesley added: "Lots of people talked to us- a lot of them had a story to tell."

This week £85 has been donated from the Huntington WI fashion show, Carole Howells donated £50 and Valerie Morris donated £10.
