IT’S Our County strengthened its hold on Hereford City Council with a convincing win in the Saxon Gate parish ward by-election.
Saxon Gate was one of two parish level elections that had to be re-run yesterday because of polling problems.
Herefordshire Council had to countermand the Hereford City Council ward election for Saxon Gate last month due to a disproportionately high number of spoiled ballot papers, particularly where voters had selected more than one candidate.
The parish council election for Newton, near Leominster, was also countermanded.
There, polling station staff issued ballot papers to electors from a neighbouring parish.
There is also a contested parish council election in King’s Caple.
