EVER fancied becoming Lord or Lady of the manor?
Well now you can- for the sum of £5,950 you can buy the Lordship of the Manor of Whitchurch Maund, near Ross-on-Wye.
It is being sold by The Earl of Shrewsbury and Talbot by Manorial Auctioneers of London.
The new Lord or Lady would be able to use the title on their passports, chequebooks, and credit cards, and be eligible for membership of the Manorial Society of Great Britain.
In legal terms a Lordship of the Manor is a property without physical being, and like any property it can be bought or sold.
The Lordship was noted in the parliamentary settlement of the estates of the 12th Earl of Shrewsbury in 1718, who became Duke of Shrewsbury and Marquess of Alton. It was called simply Whitchurch.
The present Earl of Shrewsbury, Charles Chetwynd-Talbot, is one of the 92 hereditary peers who sit in the House of Lords.
