THE Burwarton and District Agricultural Society, which runs the successful farming show at Cleobury North each August, is to donate £1,000 to the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institute for the benefit of flood stricken Somerset farmers.
Many famers on the Somerset Levels have lost all their feedstuffs, hay and straw, and in some cases have had to move their cattle and sheep to the premises of helpful farmers some distance away.
There is little prospect of conditions returning to normal for some months ahead and probably all of this coming year. Arable crops will also be affected and the overall situation is bleak.
Chairman Mike Bradbury said the Society had a profitable year in 2013 and the committee felt they wanted to help fellow farmers.
