INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL AWARD - St Michael’s CE Primary School has gained its first International School Award.

This has been as the result of several years work in this area.

Together with two other local schools, the school has successfully applied for a Connecting Classrooms Grant from the British council, to develop links with schools in the Tengeru area of northern Tanzania. The grant will allow staff to travel and meet at each others’ schools during the next year.

The school’s aim is to explore the idea of sustainability through the theme of ‘purposeful plants’. The children will work together with their fellow pupils in Tanzania through purposeful tasks which will benefit each school equally.

By working together with such a contrasting culture the school aims for pupils to see that they are living in one world and have a shared responsibility in looking after it.

By reinforcing this idea of working together the school will aim to foster in the children a ‘can do’ culture and let them see how they can all take action and make a difference in the world.
