SCHOOL FUND-RAISING – Six members of staff at Knighton Primary School have handed £1,200 to four charities. Pauline Vogel, Kirsty Dewhurst, Mandy Evans, Ann Taylor, Vanessa Gibbons and Edith Wood have been raising money for cancer charities for the last four years and have raised about £7,000 in that time. Events included sponsored walks, school sleepovers, providing refreshments at local sheep dog trials, a fun day and quiz nights. They also had support from two local pubs – the landlady of the Royal George at Lingen presented them with £445.50 from quiz nights and they also received several hundred pounds from Gaynor Taylor at the Crown Inn, Dilwyn, raised from quiz nights and raffles. The four charities to benefit this year are the Royal Shrewsbury Breast Cancer Unit, St Michael’s Hospice, Cheltenham General Hospital and the Macmillan Renton Unit. All received £300. On behalf of the six, Vanessa Gibbons thanked everyone for their donations and support.
