WASTE from a Herefordshire farm could be used to generate the business’s power and heat should the green idea be given the thumbs up.

Councillors meet tomorrow to decide whether a near-500 kilowatt anaerobic digester at Little Pengethley Farm in Peterstow can be installed.

If approved, poultry litter, vegetable waste and energy crops, all from within the business, could be used to produce the digester’s bio-gas.

The system would include two digester tanks measuring 25 metres in diameter.

Almost 30 letters of objection have been sent to planners.

Reasons include road safety worries, fears over the potential smell, and the visual impact of the digester.

The application is recommended for approval.
