ABBERLEY Denis (Mr Abb) Passed away peacefully at Hereford County Hospital on Saturday, 24th September 2022, aged 85 years. Loving husband of Bunty. Much loved father and grandfather. Funeral Service at St. Tecla's Church, Llandegley on Friday, 14th October 2022 at 12 noon. Family flowers. Donations if desired to the Lighthouse Club. Remembering Denis Abberley (Mr Abb) who sadly left us this day (24th September) last year. The world lost an absolute hero but your legacy lives on in the thousands of bricklayers you trained (including me). Kirk.

Denis trained literally thousands of Bricklayers in his career teaching Bricklaying at Hereford Technical College (which became Herefordshire College of Technology and is now Herefordshire and Ludlow College). Those thousands of Bricklayers have gone onto many successful careers from starting their own businesses to, in at least one case, becoming a Deputy CEO of a College.
Yes, I was one of his students too, then a work colleague, then for a while his section leader but throughout all those career phases he remained my teacher, my mentor and most of all my very good friend. Like many many others I will miss him so very much but I’m so honoured to have been part of his life and he in mine, and to carry with me the values I learnt from him, those of honesty, integrity, a belief in others and optimism.
Thankyou Denis for your wisdom, inspiration, energy and most of all for just being you.
