AN exhibition of work by Hay-on-Wye based artists Carolyn Blake opens at Richard Booth's Bookshop on Saturday.

A native Herefordian, Carolyn's work has been shown in various galleries throughout the area and further afield, including last year's Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.

Carolyn's work is inspired by and concerned with landscape and a love of sacred sites, leylines, chalk hill figures and myths, always attempting to create a connection between the organic, the archaeological and the spiritual.

"Paintings emerge through a process of layering paint, scratching, sanding until traces of memory are transformed into a rich and colourful image," she explains.

Carolyn works at home in her studio near Hay on Wye, overlooking the Black Mountains, amidst the gathered relics of flotsam and jetsam found on her walks and travels.

The exhibition runs from Saturday, March 21 to Monday, May 4. Open daily.
