ROYAL Mail sets sail on the third and final issue in its Military Uniform series by highlighting the history of the Royal Navy issued on September 17 and the Advertiser has 15 sets to be won.

The series, which began in 2007 with the British Army and continued in 2008 with the Royal Air Force, looks at more than two centuries of nautical uniforms from the Royal Navy; from an admiral of 1795 to the high-tech, high visibility uniform of a modern day flight deck officer from 2009.

The six stamps are issued in two se-tenant strips of three first class stamps and three 90p stamps; each features a member of the Royal Navy representing a significant stage in the development of the British Naval uniform.

As with the previous Military Uniforms issues, the stamps appear in chronological order and are designed by Atelier Works (Crimean War, Victoria Cross stamp issues) and illustrated by Graham Turner.

Royal Mail is also issuing a prestige stamp book written by military historian Tim Newark and a joint, limited edition Cachet cover with the BFPO (British Forces Post Office).

Julietta Edgar, head of special stamps, Royal Mail, said: “These stamps provide us with a fascinating insight into the history and diversity of naval uniforms, captured with great attention to detail by Graham Turner. The stamps bring to an end a very distinctive and popular series about the rich heritage of the British military.”

Stamps and stamp products are available from all post offices, online from www.royalmail.com/stamps and by calling 08457 641 641.
