A HEREFORD primary school organised a 'walking bus' for pupils to help ease congestion while emergency sewer repairs were carried out.

Teachers at Hereford Cathedral Junior School decided to get their walking boots on after Welsh Water announced Castle Street would be partially closed on Monday.

Staff met groups of children at various collection points around the city and walked them in to school saving additional congestion while the repairs continued.

A spokesman for Welsh Water said no interruption to customers' wastewater service was anticipated while work was ongoing to repair the Victorian sewer.

"We are aware that work such as this can cause inconvenience and would like to thank customers for bearing with us while the work is completed," he said.
