KINGTON pupils enjoyed a taste of what it is like to run a hotel when they visited the family-run, four-star Metropole Hotel and spa in Llandrindod Wells.

The pupils, who are studying BTECs in hospitality and health and social care at Lady Hawkins’ School, were

carrying out research into different types of hospitality businesses, and the use of complementary therapies in contemporary society. The students were particularly keen to find out about customer service and staff management, as well as the complexities of running a large hotel with two restaurants, function and conference suites, a spa with a range of therapies, a busy bar and 110 bedrooms.

Metropole managing director Justin Baird-Murray said “The pupils enjoyed their visit as it gave them an insight into the running of a large hotel. It’s important for those viewing a career in the hospitality industry to have a flavour of what this kind of work will entail. It is demanding, of course, but it is also varied and rewarding."

Teacher Emily Pugh said "Justin did a fantastic job of introducing the students to the many different aspects of a hospitality business. The students thoroughly enjoyed looking behind the scenes at a local, large and successful example.”
