The Green Dragon Hotel is proud to sponsor the Best Cider Producer Award at the 2019 Hereford Times Food & Drink Awards. Supporting Herefordshire's food and drink producers is at the heart of the hotel's vision for the future.
Historically, The Green Dragon Hotel has had strong links to local cider production as a meeting place for the famous Woolhope Club and the Three Counties Agricultural Society. This year in October it will play host to Ciderlands, an international conference and celebration of cider tourism and culture festival in the UK, welcoming cider aficionados from across the globe. It's hoped this will be the first of many opportunities to host and support food and drink events, as The Green Dragon Hotel is restored to its former glory, to once again be a part of Herefordshire’s food and drink culture.
Along with a year-long refurbishment comes a new team and the hotel has recently appointed Simon Bolsover as Executive Chef of its new brasserie, The Hereford, opening on the 1st of September 2019. With Simon's passion for gastronomic excellence, visitors to the Green Dragon Hotel can expect to see a radical change in the menu, with a focus on modern British dining, working with local growers and producers to celebrate Herefordshire's abundant larder.
For those looking for a light bite, the newly-reopened Garrick Lounge provides a great place to meet family and friends or to catch up with business colleagues. With its relaxed ambience and comfortable mix of classic and contemporary style, it is the place to indulge your sweet tooth and spoil your loved ones with loose leaf Trumpers teas, Method Roast coffee, pastries from Peter Cook's Bread as well as homemade cakes, cream teas, savoury treats and perhaps a glass of champagne?
For the cocktail lover, there is also the revival of the historic Offa Bar. In its heyday, the Offa Bar was a place to meet all of the county's most interesting people, something the new owners hope to recreate. The bar will now boast the best mixology in the county, supported by Chase Distillery, which will be the house vodka of choice. The Chase team also sponsored a recent competition to find the bar's lead mixologist, Henry Partridge, who has devised a delicious menu of both classic and seasonal cocktails focused on local drink producers. So whatever your tipple, you can enjoy a taste of Herefordshire any way you like. A glass of Westons' cider and a packet of Two Farmers crisps, a celebratory Kir Royale made with British Cassis or maybe an after-work G&T from Penrhos gin!
We wish all of this year's Food & Drink Awards entrants the best of luck and look forward to the judging. With such an array of local talent, the awards should be a fantastic celebration of Herefordshire's produce and beverages.
