AT a recent meeting of Ross Rotary Club, Ross Rotarian Polly Gabriel spoke about the work of the charity Changing Faces and gave a demonstration of her role within the skin camouflage service of that charity. Polly said that skin camouflage techniques were pioneered by Max Factor after the Second World War to treat badly burned American pilots using prosthesis to cover facial skin damage.

THE border town of Presteigne was the location for a new autumn festival for the Marches, when Gillian Clarke, National Poet of Wales headed an inspirational line-up of poets for the first Poetry in Presteigne Festival in October. An impressive gathering of over 20 poets, musicians and artists from Wales and the Marches, including Samantha Wynne-Rhydderch, Paul Henry, Susan Richardson, John Barnie, Nicky Arscott and Frank Olding delighted audiences in the town’s Assembly Rooms with performances that were diverse and original as well as thought provoking and thrilling.
THE Knighton Community Support Project furniture barn has been reopened after being closed for the last few months.
STAFF at the Tuffins Mid Counties Co-op store in Knighton dressed up for Halloween and raised £198.69 for Knighton Under 5s, the store's chosen charity. Store manager David Morris thanked all their customers and local businesses for donating money towards this valuable group for the youngest people in the town.
THE Halloween monsters ball at the Knighton Hotel was a great success. Lots of children turned up in Halloween costume to listen to spooky stories and music, and enjoy a good selection of food. The staff at the hotel had worked hard decorating the ballroom and stairs to add to the Halloween atmosphere.
