A HEREFORD and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) crew was called to a fuel spill in Hereford's Plough Lane.

The crew was called out yesterday evening (April 29), as 40 litres of diesel spilled from a unit on a private road off the lane, not far from Herefordshire Council's offices.

A spokesperson for HWFRS said: "A HWFRS crew was called at 5.35pm on April 29 to a fuel leak. Around 40 litres of diesel were spilled on a private road. Absorbent pads and sand were applied with the Environment Agency informed. There were no casualties and no other emergency services attended. The incident was marked as pending closure at 6.08pm."

The Environment Agency confirmed that despite being informed, it did not need to take action as there was no environmental risk.

The agency says that for a significant spill of any hydrocarbon product like diesel, the area should be contained to prevent further contamination, and that these incidents should be reported to the EA.
