For everyone looking for things to do over the bank holiday, here is a list of ten events to keep all the family busy, courtesy of local tourism website Eat, Sleep, Live, Herefordshire.
Hereford River Carnival
Hereford’s largest free community event, the Hereford River Carnival returns this weekend.
This will be the first full-scale carnival since 2018 and organisers promise more fun and entertainment than ever, as the Castle Green, Bishops Meadow and river Wye are filled with colour.

The carnival starts on Friday, August 26, with an evening of music, myth and legend starting on Castle Green with a torchlit procession to Bishop’s Meadow.
There will be floats, processions, music and dance through Saturday, plus some special surprises along the way.
Hereford Indie Food Festival
Hereford Indie Food Festival is back on Saturday, August 28 with a festival of food, music, produce and makers set in the heart of Hereford City.
A Rule of Tum, in Aubrey Street, is hosting a 2 day festival of food, music, makers, and suppliers that celebrate the best of Herefordshire’s produce and food outlets.
Organisers are promising great music, including live sets from Felix White, best known for being the guitarist with indie band the Maccabees, and BBC Radio 1 Extra DJ Trevor Nelson.
BBQ Feast at Green Dragon
Another food event taking place in Hereford sees Simon Morley from popular BBQ supper club Under The Nut Tree cooking a BBQ Feast at the Green Dragon Hotel in Broad Street on Saturday, August 28, from 1.30pm to 5.30pm.
Olliefest
Ross-on-Wye event Olliefest was first held in 2015 in response to the tragic loss of a member of Ross Rugby Club, Ollie Floyd.
The event has grown over the last 6 years and now offers a wide variety of musical entertainment as well as a funfair, inflatables and places to eat and drink.
The event is taking place at Ross Rugby Club from Thursday, August 25 to Monday, August 29.
Art Weobley
Art Weobley is an exhibition of works by local artists running from Saturday, August 27 to Monday, August 29.
Running alongside the main exhibition is an ‘art trail’ where a number of village houses will also be displaying work.
This gives visitors the chance to explore the historic black and white village as they go.
Waterworks Museum open day
The Waterworks Museum in Broomy Hill is hosting an open day on Sunday, August 28.
There’s plenty for all the family to enjoy with children’s activities including a frog trail, a firefighting quiz and a story of water quiz.
Visitors can also learn about Hereford in World War Two in the Rotherwas exhibition.
Out at the Inn
The New Inn at St Owen’s Cross, between Hereford and Ross-on-Wye are going ‘Out at The Inn’ between 12pm and 4pm on Monday, August 29.
The event will feature live music, fire grilled street food, a garden bar and a relaxed friendly atmosphere.
Eastnor Castle history show
Eastnor Castle, near Ledbury, is hosting historical, interactive family fun on Sunday August 28 and Monday August 29.
Join ‘The Woodvilles’ for an interactive medieval living history show and displays with cooking, crafts and combat.
Leominster walkers Kingsland circular
For those who like to take life at a slightly more sedate pace, Leominster Walkers are Welcome are hosting a walk from Leominster Tourist information centre to Kingsland and back on Monday August 29.
The circular walk includes a cream tea on the village green in Kingsland.
Bands in the Park
The last of Ross-on-Wye’s summer series of ‘Bands in the Park’ concerts takes place this Sunday, August 28, at the bandstand in Wye Street .
Sit back and relax to the sounds of traditional and modern brass band favourites performed by local musicians.
