Hull have completed the signing of Brazil international Geovanni on a free transfer, the club's official website announced on Saturday.
The 28-year-old has agreed a two-year contract with the Tigers after being released by Manchester City at the end of last season.
Assistant manager Brian Horton told BBC Radio Humberside: "He's got a very good track record so I think he'll be an excellent signing for us. We've heard a lot about him and spoken to quite a few people, but we saw him ourselves so we know the player."
The former Barcelona and Benfica midfielder is manager Phil Brown's second summer signing as he prepares for the club's first season in the Barclays Premier League.
Geovanni joined City on a free transfer from Cruzeiro last year but failed to make a huge impact at Eastlands.
The player cost Barcelona £11million in 2001 but struggled to establish himself at the Nou Camp and later went on loan to Benfica before returning to Brazil.
He has now travelled to Italy to join his new team-mates at their pre-season training camp in Italy.
Geovanni's arrival follows the club's permanent capture of forward Craig Fagan, who rejoined the Tigers on loan last season, from Derby earlier in the week.
Brown is also thought to be closing in on a number of other targets, with French right-back Bernard Mendy, also available on a free transfer, training with the club in Italy.
Middlesbrough midfielder George Boateng has also attracted interest while another player released by Manchester City, Emile Mpenza has been linked.
