Two people have been arrested in connection with a fire in a domestic garage which killed a 14-year-old boy, police said.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the blaze at Chestnut Drive in Holme on Spalding Moor in East Yorkshire at 4.13am, Humberside Police said.
Another 14-year-old boy escaped the fire with serious injuries and is now in hospital.
A spokeswoman for the force said the blaze is now being treated as "suspicious".
She said: "We are appealing for any information in relation to the fire and also in relation to anyone who may have seen some young boys in the area before the fire or elsewhere in the village.
"At this stage we are appealing for any information at all from the local residents as it would be very valuable to our ongoing inquiry."
Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said two fire crews attended the scene and quickly brought the blaze under control.
Earlier a spokesman for the service said: "This is an extremely traumatic incident that has shocked the local community.
"The fire appears to have developed very quickly and a fire investigation team is trying to determine how and why that fire started."
Anyone with information about the incident can contact police on 0845 606 0222.
