3:15am Saturday 17th May 2008

Police are investigating claims two children, aged 12 and 16, voted in a local election.

The youngsters allegedly went to the polls in the contest for the seat in Eynesbury, St Neots on Huntingdonshire District Council.

A spokeswoman for Cambridgeshire police said: "We can confirm an allegation of electoral fraud in recent local elections in St Neots has been referred to police by Huntingdonshire District Council and is being investigated."

It is alleged the youngsters voted after mistakenly being sent polling cards.
