Dizzee Rascal, Smokey Robinson and Dove are the first headline acts revealed for the 2009 Electric Proms.
Florence And The Machine and Metronomy will also perform as part of the BBC New Music Shorts, alongside short films inspired by their tracks and commissioned by the BBC to premiere at the festival.
Smokey Robinson said: "It's an honour and a privilege to return to the UK and perform at the BBC Electric Proms - the show is definitely going to be something I will be proud to present to all of my beautiful fans who have supported me throughout my career."
The American soul legend will close the Proms, which will be held at The Roundhouse in Camden, North London from Tuesday October 20 to Friday October 24.
British grime star Dizzee will perform on October 21 backed by live band the Young Punx and a 16-piece string section from the Heritage Orchestra, the first time he will have performed a full-length live show with a band and orchestra.
Doves will be working with choral arranger Avshalom Caspi to interpret their tracks for a brand new performance with the 40-strong London Bulgarian Choir on October 22.
Doves frontman Jimi Goodwin said: "We're really excited about playing at the BBC Electric Proms. The voices of the London Bulgarian Choir are just unbelievable, and it is brilliant just to get the chance to play the songs differently. It is going to be really special."
Florence And The Machine and Metronomy will perform at the short film premieres in the Studio Theatre on October 22.
