Westfields 2 Studley 1.

WESTFIELDS had to battle hard for their fourth Midland Alliance win of the season which came courtesy of Aidan Thomas’ winner 10 minutes from time.

The city side made a great start when former Bull Sam Gwynne fired in a cross shot which flew into the far corner with only two minutes played. Jamie Cuss was unfortunate not to add a second when his curling shot came back off an upright.

But Studley equalised after 23 minutes when Scott Jackson conceded a free-kick on the edge of the area and Michael Batchelor headed home.

Cuss headed wide from a Joel Edwards cross as Fields began the second-half in good style. But Fields had to wait until the 80th minute to grab the three points.

From a counter-attack, Craig Jones raced forward before sending a pass into the path of Thomas who shot hard and low across the keeper and into the net.

Westfields have lost the services of Sam Gwynne who has joined Conference North side Brackley Town.

The Northamptonshire club are managed by ex-Bull Jon Brady and top the table after winning all of their first eight games.

After leaving Edgar Street at the end of the 2010-11 season, Gwynne played for Neath before linking up with Westfields last season.
